When Kirk, Spock, and Bones arrive at the scene of a crime where a group of ambassadors has been kidnapped, the Enterprise is taken over by a Vulcan cult leader who is Spock's half-brother; when Captain Kirk and his crew find themselves in the middle of an assassination plot against a Klingon chancellor, they must act to prevent sabotage of the Klingon-Federation peace initiative.
